Travel Meet Fees:

As a reminder, beginning with the start of 2023, the travel meet fee for each swimmer attending an out of state meet will now be $30.  This slight increase will help cover the rising costs of airfare, gas, lodging, and food expenses for our traveling coaches and meet entrance/ attendance fees.

LVSC Annual Banquet:

Thank you to everyone who attended our annual banquet in February.  We not only had the highest attendance on record, but we were also able to fundraise a significant amount through ticket sales, auction items, and the 50/ 50 raffle to help keep LVSC running smoothly, effectively, and with purpose.   It was so great to be able to recognize the swimmers, families, volunteers, and coaches who make LVSC such an amazing organization.  Attached to this email you will see the pdf of the slideshow that was presented at the banquet for your reference.

College Swimming Information Meeting:

We will be hosting an informal meeting this spring to offer additional insight into college swimming.  Members of our staff, as well as a few guest speakers, will cover topics such as; the recruitment process, what it’s like to be a collegiate athlete, what to consider when deciding on a college/university and their swim program, and they will also do their best to answer any questions our team may have.  Please watch for specific details on time/ location/ date to be released soon.

Tropicana/ I – 15 Road Closures:

As a reminder, the Tropicana southbound exit from the I– 15 is closed and will remain closed for the next several months. Please keep these closures in mind when attending the TRA Long Course Opener April 1st and April 2nd.

MunchkinFest Meet March 10th

A special thank you to Coach Madi, Coach Kirk, Coach Alyssa, and Coach Roseann for putting on a fun and memorable meet that allowed our younger swimmers to gain some great racing experience!

Dryland:

LVSC is always striving to create strong, healthy, and well- rounded swimmers.  Increasing our dryland swimmer attendance, focus, and commitment is an initiative we are working hard on in 2023!  We know that the dedication and work our swimmer’s put into their dryland training will strengthen their confidence and ability in the water!

Volunteer Hours:

Please remember that each LVSC family is responsible for completing 10 volunteer hours every 6 months.   To clarify, each family must complete 10 hours between January and June and then again between July and December.  At the end of each six -month period, families will be charged $ 25 per hour for any hours not completed.  While we encourage volunteering throughout the season to easily meet this goal, please keep in mind that LVSC will be hosting a large, multi- team Memorial weekend meet where we will need extensive volunteers and support.

Volunteer Training Sessions:

We will be hosting a few “volunteer training sessions” this spring.  These brief, but thorough, training sessions are designed to offer further information and instruction on how to properly complete the volunteer jobs at meets.  Examples: timing, meet marshaling, meet check- in, etc.  Please watch for upcoming training session dates to be announced.

LVSC Memorial Meet:

LVSC is extremely excited to be hosting our inaugural Memorial Meet this May.  This long course meet will be held Friday May 26th, Saturday May 27th, and Sunday May 28th at Pavilion pool.  We are thrilled to be hosting local teams as well as visiting teams from surrounding states.  As this meet will require the support and dedication of many volunteers to run efficiently and effectively, we will need our LVSC families to help however they can!  Please check your email regularly for specific meet information, details, and updates!  We can’t wait to make this a highly- anticipated, fun, annual event!

Coach Spotlight:

We are extremely lucky to have one of the best coaching staffs in all of swimming and are excited for our families to get to know them all just a little bit better.  This month, we decided to highlight the amazing White Head Coach (and former LVSC swimmer) Alyssa Hawkins.

How and when did you start swimming?  Do you have a favorite stroke?  Do you have a favorite event?

I started swimming when I was 5 years old, starting out with swim lessons.  I joined the YMCA swim team when I was 8 and then at 12 I found my forever home with LVSC.  My favorite stroke is freestyle and my favorite event is the 100 freestyle.

What are your hobbies/ passions outside of swimming?

My hobbies include reading, arts & crafts, hiking, and trying new restaurants.  Hopefully, in the future, I can also add traveling to the list because there are so many places I would love to visit and learn about.

What is your favorite place that you have traveled/ vacationed/ visited and why?

My favorite place that I have vacationed is Lake Tahoe because of the beautiful (cold) water and the forests surrounding it.  My family goes every year and it’s full of amazing memories and experiences.

What is your go- to karaoke song?

My go – to karaoke song is Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey.  It’s a classic song  in which I have sung along to many times, including when I was on LVSC.  Who doesn’t love to sing this song at the top of their lungs?

If you could have dinner with any person (from anytime throughout history) who would it be?

If I could have dinner with anyone throughout history it would be with my elementary school librarian.  While he isn’t famous or revolutionary, he helped make me who I am today.  He helped me fall in love with reading and exploring new worlds.  I think books are the foundation for greatness.  They teach us how to be brave, selfless, and creative.
