Group Parent Position and Volunteers Needed:
We are always looking for enthusiastic, motivated, and positive individuals! If you are interested in a “group parent” position, or have further questions/ would like to know more about what the role entails, please email [email protected] or [email protected]
As a reminder, LVSC is hosting our first annual Memorial Invite May 26th, 27th, and 28th. We will need lots of volunteers to help run a smooth, effective, and fun meet. The volunteer positions will include head timers, timers, meet marshals, runners, swimmer check- in, and more. This meet will also be a great time to finish those volunteer hours for this half of the year. Please remember, each family is responsible for 10 volunteer hours every 6 months. The current volunteer time period ends in June. LVSC families will be charged $ 25 per hour for any hours not completed.
Want to volunteer in a different way? Have a great idea for a fundraiser or team social event? Want to learn more about different volunteer jobs at meets? Interested in becoming a meet official? Please reach out to any group parent or board member to learn more.
Non- Swimming Achievements and Accomplishments:
LVSC’s goal is to create healthy, well- rounded, creative, and positive swimmers who excel not only in the water but in the community as well. In each newsletter, we will be highlighting swimmers who have been recognized for their achievements outside of the pool. If your swimmer has an accomplishment you would like highlighted, please email [email protected]. Examples: academic honor roll, citizenship or community involvement awards, other athletic or sport awards/ medals/ recognitions.
April Swimmer Achievements:
Gianni Donato (White Group): Competed and was awarded his first medals in the SOCAL Karate Tournament, a National Qualifier held in California. Gianni has trained and competed in both swimming and karate for the last few years, enjoying the differing and challenging aspects of both.

Dryland:
LVSC is always striving to create strong, healthy, and well- round swimmers. Increasing our dryland swimmer attendance, focus, and commitment is an initiative we are working hard on in 2023! We know that the dedication and work our swimmer’s put into their dryland training will strengthen their confidence, ability, and endurance in the water!

LVSC Memorial Meet:
LSVS is extremely excited to be hosting our inaugural Memorial Invite this May. This long course meet will be held Friday, May 26th, Saturday May 27th, and Sunday 28th at Pavilion pool. We are thrilled to be hosting both local teams as well as visiting teams from surrounding states. As a reminder (again), we will need the support and dedication of many LVSC volunteers to run an effective and efficient meet. Please check your email regularly for specific meet information, details, and updates! We can’t wait to make this a highly- anticipated, fun, annual event!
Memorial Meet Swimmer Shout Outs:
We are excited to announce that we will be including “swimmer shout outs” in our meet program. The programs will be available for downloading via a QR code, and we will also have printed copies available at the meet. If you would like to create a personalized message for your swimmer, please email [email protected]. These “shout outs” will be text only (no pictures or graphics) and should be approximately 2 – 5 sentences in length (see example below). All shout outs will be $ 5 and will be charged to your LVSC account. Thank you as always for your continued support of your swimmer and LVSC.
Coach Spotlight:
We are extremely lucky to have one of the best coaching staffs in all of swimming and are excited for our families to get to know them all just a little bit better. This month, we decided to highlight our phenomenal Platinum Head Coach, Katey Carlson.
How and when did you start swimming/ coaching? Do you have a favorite stroke? Do you have a favorite event?
I started swimming when I was 6 years old. My oldest sister and I had serious childhood asthma and our pediatrician suggested that we try swimming to help strengthen our respiratory system. Within a year, our required medications and doctor visits had decreased significantly. We kept going because it was fun and we showed some natural talent for water sports. By the time I was 12, I only needed an emergency inhaler to manage my asthma. My favorite stroke is backstroke and my favorite event was the 200im. It was short enough to hang on during my weaker strokes but long enough to push through my better ones. Nowadays, I’m not sure if I would feel the same way. The 200im seems much longer when you’re older.
What are your hobbies/ passions outside of swimming?
I love music. I play the piano and ukulele, though not very well. I’ve also been involved in musical theater and choir over the years. I like seeing musicals and there are a fair amount of show tunes on my workout playlist.
What is your favorite place that you have traveled/ vacationed/ visited and why?
I really enjoy traveling and exploring so it’s hard to pick one. I love going to the North Shore of Oahu because my dad grew up there. A lot of my family members still live there. So each time we go I feel a special connection to the places where my dad and grandparents grew up.
What is your go- to karaoke song?
Are we talking about serious karaoke or silly karaoke? I’d probably overthink the whole thing and pick a Disney song like “Do You Wanna Build a Snowman?”
If you could have dinner with any person (from anytime throughout history) who would it be?
Can I have a dinner party full of historical figures? I would invite Amelia Earhart, Abigail Adams (wife of President John Adams) and many others. I have so many questions and would love to learn from these amazing people.
