June 2023 LVSC Newsletter

Welcome To The Team:

We would like to extend a warm welcome to the following swimmers who recently joined LVSC.  Please make an effort to say hi if you see these swimmers or their families on deck and welcome them to the team.

New Team Members:

Skylar Coughlin

Board Member and Group Parents Needed:

We are always looking for enthusiastic, motivated, and positive individuals!  We currently have an open board member position, as well as a few “group parent” positions.  If you are interested in learning more about what these roles entail, please email terrihovanec@gmail or [email protected].

Volunteer Hours:

As a reminder, each LVSC family is responsible for 10 volunteer hours every 6 months.  10 hours must be completed during the January - June time period and then again from July until December.  Any hours that are not completed will be charged at a $25 per hour rate at the end of the six months.  **If any family is interested in paying a discounted rate of $200 at the beginning of any six- month period, you will receive credit for all 10 hours and will not have to complete any physical hours during that time period.  Please email [email protected] for more information or to set up your payment.

Non- Swimming Achievements and Accomplishments:

LVSC’s goal is to create healthy, well- rounded, creative, and positive swimmers who excel not only in the water but in the community as well.  In each newsletter, we hope to highlight swimmers who have been recognized for their achievements outside of the pool.  If your swimmer has an accomplishment you would like highlighted, please email [email protected]

Examples: academic honor roll, scholarships, citizen or community involvement awards, other athletic or sport awards/ medals/ recognitions.

LVSC Social Media:

Please follow LVSC on Instagram and facebook for meet results, upcoming event information, fun swimming facts, and more!

Dryland:

LVSC is always working to create strong, healthy, and well-rounded swimmers.  Increasing our dryland summer attendance, focus, and commitment is an initiative we are working hard on in 2023! We know that the dedication and work our swimmer’s put into their dryland training will strengthen their confidence, ability, and endurance in the water!

LVSC Memorial Invite

We would like to say a huge “thank you” to all LVSC families for making our inaugural Memorial Invite such a great success! Not only were we able to greatly exceed our fundraising goals (allowing us to continue securing pool space, purchase new dryland and in- pool training equipment, help support future swim camps/ training experiences/ travel meets,     purchase t- shirts and “swag” for championship meet qualifiers, and so much more) but the amount of volunteer hours served by our families allowed us to run a smooth, fun, and memorable event!  We received many positive compliments from visiting teams regarding how welcoming our team was and what a great experience they had during their stay.  The board would like to reiterate our appreciation for everyone’s willingness to help out wherever they could.  We look forward to making this an annual event that continues to grow and improve each year!

Summer League:

LVSC’s summer league is off to a great start!  With over 60 swimmers participating, our newest swimmers are learning invaluable swimming technique, endurance, and theory in a non- pressure, fun, and social environment!  Their first meet of the season, hosted by the Blue Diamond Summer League Team, was a great learning opportunity, and we are very excited to continue watching them grow throughout the summer!  Please join us and support our summer league participants by volunteering at our team - hosted summer league meet this Friday, July 23rd at 5:00pm at Pavilion pool.  Many volunteer opportunities are still available if you need to complete your families’ 10 hours, or if you just want to come out and support our newest team members!

End of the Season All- LVSC Social:

LVSC and the Board of Directors are excited to host an end of the season all- team social in August!  This is a great opportunity for our swimmers to have some fun outside of practice and celebrate the end to a great summer season/ get ready for an exciting fall short course season to begin!  Please continue to watch your email for more details to come soon!

Coach Spotlight:

We are extremely lucky to have one of the best coaching staffs in all of swimming and are excited for our families to get to know them all just a little bit better.  This month, we are highlighting the newest member to our LVSC family, head age group coach, head summer league coach, and head silver coach, Madi Wyatt.

How and when did you start swimming?  Do you have a favorite stroke? Do you have a favorite event?

I started swimming in 1994, at age 4, after watching my older sister get into the sport. My favorite stroke is butterfly, and my favorite event is the 400 IM.

What are your hobbies/ passions outside of swimming?

I love pottery, long walks, trying new restaurants/ food, and live music. I'd love to have my own pottery studio one day!

What is your favorite place that you have traveled/ vacationed/ visited and why?

Seattle, WA is my favorite city. I used to travel there for Sectionals every season and got to explore the city more last year. The food, the people, and the scenery all make that city great.

What is your go- to karaoke song?

Roxanne- by The Police.

If you could have dinner with any person (from anytime throughout history) who would it be?

Karl von Klausewitz, a Prussian military strategist. While he never saw the field of battle, he was able to codify the German Way of War. Basically, I'm a huge military history nerd.
