Open Sessions at All Board Meetings:
The LVSC Board of Directors meet monthly to review and vote on several topics relating to team growth, goals, budgeting, philanthropy, coaching, and staffing. (Meeting agendas and minutes are available upon request). The first ten minutes of each meeting are always open to general membership to ask any questions, offer suggestions, voice concerns, or brainstorm ways to continue growing our team and mission. All meeting dates and times are posted on the events calendar on TeamUnify. Our next regularly scheduled board meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 10th, 2025, at 6:30pm at Pavilion Pool. Please email [email protected] with any questions. We look forward to seeing you there!
LVSC Coaching News:
Congratulations to Platinum Coach Katey Carlson! Coach Katey has been named the head coach of The Meadows High School swim team beginning in the 2025 – 2026 season. The Meadows school is excited to relaunch a high school swim team (they previously have had several successful teams but have not had a competitive team in several years). The Meadows swim team will compete with all other NIAA High School swim teams beginning next season. We are so proud of Coach Katey and know that her experience, dedication, and leadership will create an amazing and winning program!
Open Board Position:
The LVSC Board of Directors will have an upcoming open position that we are eager to fill. All members of the LVSC board of directors attend monthly meetings, make decisions regarding team financials, growth, coaching, staffing, event planning, meet attendance, and ensure all LVSC hosted meets run efficiently and successfully. All board positions require a two- year time commitment. While all board members work together to meet and exceed all LVSC goals, this position will also focus on special events such as Swim – A – Thon, The Annual Awards Banquet, End- of- Season Celebrations, and community fundraising. Please note that all LVSC BOD officers must complete USA swimming registration and a background check. If you are interested in applying, please email a brief letter of interest to [email protected] by Tuesday, June 9th. The board will discuss and vote upon all interested candidates at our next regular board meeting on Tuesday, June 10th. Please contact any board member with any questions you may have regarding the tasks and responsibilities of LVSC board members and/ or this particular role.
Introduction of LVSC’s Sunshine Group:
LVSC is proud to introduce the creation of a “Sunshine Group.” Our sunshine group aims to provide support, encouragement, and positivity to those LVSC swimmers and families who are facing adversity or a challenging medical, life, or other hardship through such acts as, gift cards/ meal trains/ helping carpool to practice/ sending greeting cards, etc. Founded and lead by board member Melissa Branch, the sunshine group hopes to be able to show those LVSC families that may need a little extra encouragement and assistance that we are thinking about them and want to bring a little bit of joy during a difficult time. If your family, or a family that you know, may benefit from the Sunshine group, please reach out to Melissa Branch at [email protected], any LVSC board member, or your group parent.
New Swimmer Orientation and Volunteer Training:
LVSC has begun holding monthly new swimmer orientation and volunteer training sessions. Each month, a few members of the board will hold an informal meeting to answer frequently asked new swimmer and family questions, give insight into what to expect at meets and LVSC events, give approximate dates and timelines for yearly events and meets, and offer advice on navigating competitive swimming. These sessions will additionally teach parents and volunteers new to competitive swimming about our volunteer opportunities and roles. Attendees will learn how “to time,” become a certified meet marshal, and the expected responsibilities of all volunteer positions. All LVSC families, new and veterans, are encouraged to attend. Please refer to the calendar (listed under events and competition on TeamUnify) for scheduled future dates.
- We will now begin including “how to count distance events” in our monthly volunteer trainings. Stop by to learn how to use the counters for your swimmer’s future distance events!
Volunteer Hours:
As a reminder, each LVSC family is responsible for 10 volunteer hours every 6 months. 10 hours must be completed from January – June and then again from July – December. Any hours not completed will be charged at a rate of $25 per hour at the end of the six months. LVSC will be hosting its annual Memorial Meet May 23rd – 25th. This is a huge event that requires the help and support of all our LVSC families and a great way to complete your service hour requirements. Please visit the event page to sign up for any still open volunteer jobs!
TeamSnap:
Thank you to everyone who has continued utilizing TeamSnap. We appreciate your patience as we are still learning the best ways to navigate and utilize this new communication tool. If you have any questions, need to add an email to the app, or have suggestions on additional ways to use TeamSnap, please email [email protected] or [email protected].
LVSC Social Media:
Please follow LVSC on Instagram and Facebook for meet results, upcoming event information, USA swimming updates and news, fun swimming facts, and more!
Meet Marshals:
USA Swimming and Southern California Swimming require 3 – 4 certified meet marshals at every sanctioned meet. Meet marshals ensure the safety of our swimmers and spectators at all meets. For LVSC to continue hosting USA Swimming sanctioned meets, it is critical that we have several parents and volunteers who are certified meet marshals and willing to volunteer for one or several sessions. The certification process is quite simple, completely online, and only requires a few hours. Please reach out to [email protected] for more information.
Swimming Officials:
LVSC is in need of swimming officials. Officials are crucial to our ability to host and run efficient and compliant USA swimming sanctioned meets. If you are interested in becoming an official, please contact Ryan McCarthy at [email protected].
CTS Administrative Training:
Interested in learning how to operate the administrative system that allows us to run and host meets (timing/ results board, touch pad, pickles)? Working as the “admin” during our LVSC hosted meets is a great way to learn more about competitive swimming, get a front- row seat to your athlete’s races, and earn your volunteer hours! If interested, please sign up to “shadow/ train” at our upcoming Memorial meet!
Non – Swimming Achievements and Accomplishments:
LVSC’s goal is to create healthy, well- rounded, creative and positive athletes who excel not only in the water but in the community as well. In each newsletter, we hope to highlight swimmers who have been recognized for their achievements outside of the pool. If your swimmer has an accomplishment that you would like highlighted in the next newsletter, please email [email protected]. Examples: academic honor roll, scholarships, citizen or community involvement awards, other athletic or sports awards/ medals/ recognitions.
Congratulations to Brooke Vanderlind (Platinum) who won second place at the Southern Nevada Regional Science and Engineering Fair at UNLV for her research and analysis of microplastics on food sources and endangered species.
Team Sponsorship 2025:
Own, frequent, or know of a business that might be interested in sponsoring LVSC? We are looking for local and national businesses to help keep our non- profit running and to help ensure our quickly approaching Memorial Day Meet is a success.
